There have been a number of confusing updates coming out of Romania regarding the possibility of a drone falling onto its territory earlier this week. Last month, various media outlets reported that Surovikin had fallen out of favour with the Kremlin following Wagner aborted mutiny and that he was being investigated for possible complicity. We've not been able to verify the photo, which shows a man in sunglasses and a cap walking alongside a woman resembling Surovikin's wife, Anna - but Ksenia Sobchak said the photo was taken on Monday. It comes just a day after a photo supposedly showing Surovikin "alive and healthy" was posted by a well-known Russian media personality on Telegram. He disappeared from public view after the mutiny and since then, rumours of his whereabouts have swirled. The general is said to have been close with Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin and while the mercenary group's short-lived June mutiny was stood down, questions about what Surovikin knew and when grew louder. However, looking at the website today, only two profiles exist and Surovikin's has disappeared. In the slider below, the first screenshot shows the website's management page on 19 June 2022 and as you can see, Surovikin's profile appears at the top. Sky News has compared archived versions of Russia's defence ministry website using the tool Wayback Machine which shows that Surovikin's profile has been removed. Sergei Surovikin, served as deputy commander of Russian forces in Ukraine, under the title Commander-in-chief of the Aerospace Forces, Army General. A senior Russian military chief who has not been seen in post since the Wagner Group's aborted mutiny has been removed from the government's website.
